Where have I been all week?

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

I did not touch, look at or even think about my computer (and the TV, mostly) for the entire week I was gone. It was awesome. I have washed out the dregs of this poisonous summer and feel ready for a more optimistic, energetic fall. I highly recommend regular Internet vacations, even if for just a day. It is rejuvenating just to turn off the constant noise for a little while.

My favorite moment of the week came when I was walking alone down the beach in the late afternoon. The ocean was like glass, and the water was bathtub-warm. A few hundred feet out, a school of dolphins paralleled me. It was an hour of pure peace and contentment. And I could imagine briefly a future in which everyone felt such balance with their world.

My goal is to have more such moments. And not to have to travel outside my normal environment to achieve them.
