Advice on using manners on Twitter to get results

Here’s a nice interview with Heather La Garde, a friend of mine, on how to use good manners on Twitter to get results for your business (via MercuryBrief). Heather works with my former employer, IntraHealth International, and directs the highly interesting IntraHealth OPEN Initiative. Some choice quotes:

Well-mannered Twitter users are curators of thought and arbitrageurs of information, says Heather LaGarde, but they are rarely self-promoters.

“Twitter is far more useful for networking than for promotion,” Heather says. “It’s important to realize that pointing to the smart work of other people is a reflection of you and what you are thinking about. When you’re in a relationship with other people, which is what Twitter supports, if all you do is talk about yourself, they get tired of you pretty quickly.”

IntraHealth and IntraHealth OPEN recently launched beautiful new websites with lots of great content about what’s going on global health, so please go check them out. You can also follow Heather, IntraHealth and OPEN on Twitter.
