What to do, what to do…

I have to rethink how I am using this blog. Lately, the number of posts, and my interest, have dropped off quite a bit. I still love WordPress, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also been giving me fits in little ways.

I still think the blog is the best place for longer, more thoughtful writing. But it’s impossible (for me, at least) to do that every day, or even every week. I may have to resign myself to posting only intermittently and concentrating on writing better pieces for the blog.

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Google+. It’s a great place for sharing links, and the shares engender many thoughtful conversations. I am sharing an “interesting read of the day” there, for instance. Check out my Google+ posts. I also post quite a few links every day on Twitter, so you can follow me there, if you prefer.

Three sites I have been spending a lot of time on lately are Quora (a question-and-answer site, with some really interesting folks answering questions), LibraryThing (for book reviews and discussion) and Cookbooker (for recipe reviews and discussion. Among them, these three sites cover almost all my interests. I’m sturlington on all of them, so I’m pretty easy to find.

I hope you’ll keep tuning in here as I figure out what I want this blog to be. In the meantime, maybe I’ll see you around the web.

  1. I’m right there with you. I’m trying to use Google+ to tie everything together, but still need to get the hang of how that looks. I’m going to be consolidating a number of types of writing on my main blog, because, well, the idea is to easily find us – the writers – no matter where we are, right?

Maybe one of those flavors.me type sites is the way. I know that my main url (http://mattwarren.net) links to as much of that stuff as possible. But still, you have to go to A Site to find stuff. That’s rapidly feeling outdated, but is yet to be replaced by anything that feels right.

The web has never felt more in process than it does right now. :)

  2. Matt- You’ve really crystallized what I’ve been feeling as well. Blogs still seem important, but I don’t know what their role should be or how everything fits together. I know I’ve been wanting to present my thoughts/shares more cohesively and haven’t yet found a satisfactory way of doing this. Google+ is the most promising, so far.

  3. I agree that G+ seems the most promising. That said, there’s still some gaping holes in the whole tying things together. In fact, I wrote a post about it that I’d presume will gain traction long after I’ve forgotten about it.

Blogs are super, we just need to somehow capture the conversations associated with our words.
