Recommended Reading: The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August

This month I am recommending The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North. When Harry August dies, he is reborn as himself at the same time and to the same parents, but with the memories of his previous lives intact. When he learns that another person like him is manipulating history for his own selfish ends and accelerating the end of the world, Harry knows that he must stop him. This novel reminded me of Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. Recommended for anyone who likes time travel or slipstream stories.

  1. Awesome recommendation. Did you write that summary for Fifteen Lives, or borrow it, ’cause it sure beats the one I tried to put together when reviewing this book last month, ha. I’m planning to read Life After Life soon. How would you rate it compared to Harry August?

  2. I wrote it. Thanks! Comparing the two, Life after Life is more complex, more focused on historical events, and more brutal. I think it’s the better book–five stars for Life after Life, four stars for Harry August–mainly because I think LAL delves deeper. Hope you like it!

  3. Oh, wow, so Life after Life is even smarter. I was barely smart enough to read Harry August. I gave it 4/5 stars too, BTW. It was good but I couldn’t get invested enough in Harry’s character.
